The man behind the workshop.
De Fietsedokter is a one-person workshop. No webshop, no chain, no middleman. What comes in is looked at, repaired and returned by Michel himself.
Portret van Michel volgt zodra de werkplaats-foto is gemaakt.
Michel started on Old Hickoryplein because he had had enough of how big bike chains treat customers. Too many repairs declined, too many new bikes sold where a good revision would have done.
For bigger work the workshop runs on appointments, but the door stays open for people in trouble. Anyone walking in with a flat, a snapped chain or a bike that just won't budge gets helped, even if it means staying open five minutes longer.
Speciality: repairs other shops set aside. Vintage Raleigh, road bikes with worn cassettes, e-bikes with mechanical issues, BMX bikes that should run for years more. What leaves here usually has another season or longer in it.
What never changes: fair price, no sales talk, and the conviction that a bike you can still repair does not belong in the bin.
Repair over replace
Recycling a working bike costs the planet more than straightening what's bent.
One face
You always get Michel on the phone, at the bench and at the till. No middleman.
No sales talk
If a new bike works out cheaper than repairing, you'll hear it. The other way round too.
